Colin Riordan qualified in Medicine from Trinity College Dublin in 1996. He completed his early surgical training in Dublin and was awarded the MRCS qualification in 2000. He then travelled to the USA and completed a research fellowship in wound healing at the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. His research has been honored with numerous awards including the OrthoMcNeill Young Investigator Award by the North American Wound Healing Association, the Glancy Bowl Award by the South Eastern American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Gasper W Anatasi Award by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the best paper presentation at the American Association of Hand Surgeons 2007 (read more).
He returned to Ireland at the end of 2001 to complete Higher Surgical Training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. In 2006 he was awarded a travelling Scholarship by the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand and undertook periods of study at the prestigious Hand Center in Malmö, Sweden and Derby, UK. Following this he undertook a year of additional specialized training in cosmetic plastic surgery at the internationally recognized Akademikliniken hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.
He returned to Ireland at the end of 2007 and commenced practice as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Blackrock Clinic and St. Vincent’s University Hospital. His areas of special interest include Cosmetic/Aesthetic Surgery, Breast Surgery and Reconstructive/Hand Surgery.
It was during his time as a fellow at Akademikliniken in 2007 that the concept of opening a similar clinic in Ireland was formulated, which led to the opening of the first Akademikliniken Partner Clinic, The Aesthetic Institute in Dublin in September 2011.
Colin Riordan is listed on the Irish Medical Council Specialist Register of Plastic Surgeons and is a member of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons (IAPS), Irish Hand Surgery Society (IHSS) and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS).

Dr Siún Murphy

Dr Siún Murphy is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeon.
Siún qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 1999 with honours in surgery. After completing her Internship in Tallaght Hospital, she completed her basic Surgical Training (RCSI BST) in 2002 and pursued a career in plastic Surgery.
Siún completed her first post as Senior House Officer in St James’s Hospital and Crumlin, and was hooked on this speciality as her chosen career path. She went on to complete a Masters Degree and Thesis through Trinity College while in Vancouver, Canada studying neovascularisation (formation of new blood vessels) in the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre, and was awarded the Postgraduate Edward Hallaran Bennett Medal and fellowship through Trinity during this tenure.
Siún returned to Ireland with a Thesis (and skis), and was appointed to the Higher Training Programme in Plastic Surgery (RCSI) in 2005. This 6-year programme rotates through the hospitals in Ireland that have a plastic surgery service. At the end of her training, she completed the FRCS (Plast) examination (Intercollegiate Examination) and finished her training with a Fellowship in Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery in Sydney, Australia where she trained in skin cancer reconstruction as well as the latest techniques in plastic surgery including short scar surgery of the breast, face and abdomen. Siún has a strong academic interest and has published extensively and presented her work at both national and international levels. In addition to her private practice here at The Aesthetic Institute, Súin remains committed to the public hospital system with clinical and teaching roles. Siún Murphy is a listed member of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, and the Irish Medical Council.
